16 December, 2010Ending a one month sit-in strike, subcontracted workers at Hyundai in Korea returned to work and began negotiations with the company. At the heart of the dispute are the workers' demands for full union rights and to be recognized as permanent workers, in line with an earlier Supreme Court decision.

The management received numerous faxes from unions and other organizations including the IMF. The company was warned by the District Attorney. As a result, Jura announced it was ready to engage in talks with the union.

The struggle for direct employment and the regularization of in-house subcontracted workers will continue, but this agreement represents an important victory for the workers.
